Lucy Piacentini
President

​Lucy Piacentini is a Water Resource Engineer with H2M architects + engineers. She received her B.E. in Environmental Engineering and Earth System Sciences from The City College of New York. Lucy has been involved with SWE since 2016. As a former member of Girl Scouts and FIRST Robotics she developed a passion for empowering girls and women in the STEM field. In her free time, Lucy enjoys running and rock climbing!


Gina Trivellini
Vice President, New York City

Gina Trivellini is a Program Industrial Manager for commercial engines at Pratt & Whitney. She has been involved in SWE since 2012, and has previously served as President of SWE New York and SWE Hartford. Gina is also on the board of Greater Than Tech, a non-profit with the mission of introducing girls of color to technology and entrepreneurship. She is a DREAM Legends Mentor and a volunteer with the Millville Army Air Field Museum, which aims to preserve World War II aviation history. Gina earned her B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.



Gozde Ustuner
Vice President, Long Island

Gozde is the assistant professor of the Mechanical Engineering Department at Hofstra University and a researcher at Brookhaven National Laboratory working with Surface Electrochemistry and Electrocatalyst Group focusing on optimizing Fuel Cell Technology. Her research work focuses on developing a new electrocatalyst for hydrogen fuel cells which is suitable to apply fuel-cell powered passenger and commercial vehicles while generating clean electricity. Besides her research work, Gozde has taught a variety of engineering courses at many universities. She has received her undergraduate degree from New York University and her Master’s degree from Stony Brook University both in Mechanical Engineering and her PhD in Materials Science and Chemical Engineering.  

Prior to her academic experience, Gozde has worked as a design engineer in industry and has done various research projects where her works were funded by United States Department of Energy (DOE), National Science Foundation (NSF). She has been involved with SWE throughout her collegiate and professional career. Besides serving as the LI Vice President for the SWE New York Professional Section, she is also a board member of the LI Section of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), a science judge for various Science and Engineering Fairs and FIRST Robotics, a member of the international board of directors for the NYU Polytechnic Alumni Association and faculty mentor for various programs. She is passionate about helping students explore their interest in science and engineering and she enjoys traveling and trying new cuisines!


Julia Napolitano
Treasurer

Julia has been involved with SWE since her time at Carnegie Mellon as a Community Service Chair. During her time in college, Julia organized volunteers for the Pittsburgh Science Center science fair, FIRST robotics competition, and technical career fair, where 300+ companies attended. Since moving to New York last year, Julia has been actively involved in SWE New York, most recently serving as Community Outreach Chair and Secretary in FY21. Julia is passionate about making an impact regarding community service, especially with kids K-12. She hopes to inspire young female-identifying individuals to pursue engineering and other STEM fields!


Emma Koslow
Secretary

​Emma is a software engineer at the Walt Disney Company and is based in NYC. In addition to being on the SWE NY Board, she is also the Community Development Co-Chair for the SWE Early Career Professionals Affinity Group. She is also a graduate student at NYU working to get her MS in Cybersecurity! Emma is passionate about supporting DEI&B in engineering and tech and wants to make sure everyone feels like they belong and have a place at the table. In her free time, she loves to bake, collect vinyl records, and go see musicals. 


Francesca LaPinta
Membership Chair

Francesca has been involved in SWE since 2017 through her time at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She earned her B.S. in Mechanical Engineering there in 2021 and stayed to obtain her M.E. in Mechanical Engineering. She now works for Deloitte as a consultant in the cybersecurity space. In addition to SWE New York, Francesca is also involved in the Societal Outreach Committee and serves as a work group lead for the Section Engagement team. In her free time she enjoys weightlifting, baking, and serves as a mentor in the iMentor NYC program!


Cara Mulrooney
Social Events Chair

Cara is an AI Engineer at IBM and a recent graduate of Olin College of Engineering, where she earned an Electrical and Computer Engineering degree. She has been involved with SWE since 2020, when she served as President of her college’s SWE section and led efforts to reactivate the group following the COVID-19 pandemic. Cara continues to support the organization as a mentor to her college’s SWE program. 


A former Girl Scout, Cara discovered her passion for engineering and community empowerment in high school through founding her school’s FIRST Robotics program. Her efforts not only introduced the fundamentals of robotics, engineering, and collaboration through hands-on projects, but also laid the groundwork for the creation of her school’s STEM Center – a dedicated space equipped with resources that now support robotics, science, and coding programs to inspire and prepare students for futures in STEM fields. In her free time, Cara enjoys reading, baking, sketching, and performing improv.


Anurima Sharma
Community Outreach Co-Chair

Anurima has been involved with SWE Community Outreach since 2016 through Washington University in St. Louis. She earned her B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from there in 2019 and went on to get a Master’s Degree in Health Technology from Cornell Tech. Anurima now works as a Product Manager at a health tech startup, Fig, which is making it easier for people with dietary restrictions to find foods they can eat. Encouraging girls and women to pursue engineering, despite it being a male-dominated field, has been a focus for Anurima since high school and she is glad she is able to work on this mission through SWE. When Anurima is not working or volunteering through SWE Community Outreach she is either dancing her way through New York City or road-tripping up and down the east coast.



Sonika Rawal
Community Outreach Co-Chair

Sonika Rawal is a Mechanical Engineering student at LaGuardia Community College with a strong interest in sustainability, energy systems, and applied research. She is currently a Research Assistant in the EASEL program at her college, where she simulates signal propagation in semiconductor waveguides using MATLAB. Through the QSTEM Research Academy, she is also exploring how solar panel geometry and placement can support future aviation applications. Previously, she interned at The New School as an Energy & Sustainability Intern, contributing to research on city energy codes, local laws, and community solar. Sonika has also served as a calculus tutor, driven by her love for math and commitment to supporting other students. She is passionate about using engineering and data to address real-world challenges and advance sustainable technologies.   

Lisa Wang
Professional Development Events Chair

Lisa is a Senior Analyst at Justworks, where she leverages her background in industrial and systems engineering to drive process efficiency and improve internal tools. She earned her Master’s in Systems Engineering from Cornell University. Lisa’s professional experience spans data analytics, supply chain consulting, and process improvement.

Lisa has been involved with SWE since her undergraduate years and is passionate about solving complex problems and creating meaningful change. She enjoys creating community for women in STEM. In her free time, Lisa loves attending Broadway shows, exploring New York City, and discovering new coffee shops.

Veronica Camp
Golf Event Chair

Veronica Camp earned her Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from The Catholic University of America in 2019. She is currently an engineer with the Metro-North Railroad. She has been actively involved with the Society of Women Engineers throughout her collegiate and professional career, and she currently serves as Golf Event Chair for SWE New York.
