Rachel Leong
Electrical Engineering, Stony Brook University
"My name is Rachel L. Leong and I am a junior at Stony Brook University (SBU) pursuing a Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Electrical Engineering planning to specialize in Power and Energy Systems. I am from Brooklyn, NY but recently finished up a 12-week internship at ITC Holdings Corp. in Novi, MI as a Planning Intern where I learned a lot about the power and electrical transmissions industry. In college, I am a member of the Honors College and currently serve as the Vice President of the IEEE at SBU Chapter and a Lead Peer Mentor in our CEAS Peer Mentoring Program. Previously I was also the Event Coordinator of both the SWE at SBU Chapter and IEEE at SBU Chapter as well as a member of Women in Computer Science and other student organizations. I am interested in working in industry and applying what I learn from my education to positively impact people’s lives and hope to one day be in a position to teach or help others gain opportunities to pursue their own dreams. To reach these goals, I aspire to gain as much experience and explore as many different interests as possible during my college career and develop myself academically, professionally, and socially. I aim to further focus my future career goals by utilizing the various opportunities I have here and make the most of my time at SBU. Thank you to the Society of Women Engineers, New York & Long Island for this scholarship!"
